Ecosystem approach to aquaculture

         The EcoAqua Summer School 2015 on “Ecosystem based approach for the sustainable development of aquaculture” was organized in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, as part of the EcoAqua project to:

-       Provide participants with an in-depth perception on the state-of-the art and future challenges facing aquaculture sustainable development in diverse marine environments. 

-       Offer technical material to facilitate the acquisition of essential knowledge required for the development of sustainable aquaculture under an ecosystem approach. 

-       Provide scientific and technical skills to enable exchange of know-how and good practices between experts and participants.

         Between the 26th and the 29th of Oct of 2015, the EcoAqua Summer School was organized and hosted by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) at the Scientific and Technological Marine Park of the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) in Taliarte, Spain. This first Summer School foreseen under the FP7 ECOAQUA project facilitated discussion and exchange of information between experts and participants on current aquaculture issues dealing with marine spatial planning, ecosystem interactions and aquaculture development in coastal areas. 

         This training course provided participants with an in-depth perception on the state-of-the art and future challenges facing aquaculture sustainable development in diverse marine environments. The course offered technical material to facilitate the acquisition of essential knowledge required for the development of sustainable aquaculture under an ecosystem approach. The provision of scientific and technical skills enabled the exchange of know-how and good practices between experts and participants.
